Olive oil

The olive tree is emblematic of Mediterranean culture. That's because we make good oil from its fruit, and good olives. A spoonful of tapenade on toast, a few slices of juicy tomato, a goat's cheese, a drizzle of oil, and you're on the verge of unlocking the secret of longevity for the people of the South. The organic producers of Domaine du Fenouillet will be delighted to show you their products at the markets in Hyères. We also recommend the small, family-run L'Olivaie in Hyères.

Chestnuts

Do you know what the chestnut grower is called? The castaneiculteur. And this character with the funny name is constantly dreaming up a whole range of irresistible products. To meet him in his natural habitat, you can head for the Massif des Maures, in Collobrières for example. If you're in the area in October, don't miss the Chestnut Festival. You'll be able to taste roasted chestnuts, marrons glacés, jam, ice cream, cream...

The honey

A region with so many flowers is bound to produce good honey... but only if it's made according to the rules of the art. This is the case with the small producers in the Var region around Hyères. Garrigue, lavender, thyme, acacia and chestnut honeys all have the deliciously sweet taste of the pretty hills of Provence. Among the honey factories around Hyères, discover La Butinerie, in Bormes-les-Mimosas, the little commune that has planted flowers right into its name. Take the whole family on a tour of the site, with educational activities planned around the beehive.

Fruits and vegetables from the South

Ah, the good vegetables of the South, with their lilting accents and the sweetness of a summer's evening... Skim the farmers' markets, and come and choose your tomatoes, zucchinis and eggplants to make a ratatouille bursting with sunshine. For eco-responsible desserts, opt for local produce and fresh products - your fruit salad will be all the better for it.
